In 1995, a group of four wood boat owners, got together to
form the newest chapter of the Antique and Classic Boat Society.
Rich Baratha, Bob Otto, Les Demaline and Jack Lynett met
at the Holiday Inn in Montose to draw up the documents which
would permit the new chapter to chart its course in the boating
world.
At Skeanateles, NY during the spring quarterly directors
meeting of the ACBS, the charter was presented to the chapter;
and within 2 months, NCO held its first boat show at Spitzer
Marina in Lorain, Ohio. From then on, the chapter grew rapidly.
The love of wood boats fuels the growth to include 2 major
judged shows, a winter workshop, a spring rendezvous and numerous
meetings. NCO sponsors youth sailboat building and racing,
and has sponsored young members to the professional boat building
schools.
NCO has encouraged its officers and directors to participate
in the work of ACBS international, and currently has members
on the Board of Directors and various committees. The continued
growth is evident in the current list of 133 members and a
sound treasury.
The future looks bright as new and younger members move to
positions of leadership, and as new boats find their way into
the preservation ranks.
