MINUTES OF NORTH COAST OHIO MEETING
January 4, 2010

MINUTES of the regular meeting of the Officers and Directors of the North Coast Chapter of the Antique and Classic Boat Society, held January 4, 2010 at Demitri’s Restaurant, Parma Ohio.

Present were Bill Hunter, Ray McFarland, Gary Kosiba, Jim Denny, Les Demaline, Marilyn Demaline, Don Emery, Mary Emery, Sylvia Chappell, Gil Maringer, Greg Glick, Bud Long, Walt Stashkiw, John Vorhies, Cliff Wolfe, Joe Nemes and Jack Lynett.

The meeting was called to Order at 7:03pm by President Walt Stashkiw. On MOTION made, SECONDED and PASSED the minutes of the Annual Meeting were APPROVED.

Treasurer John Vorhies reported on the status of the funds of the Chapter and the result of the annual meeting. Some capital expenditures during the past year, such as carpet for the IX display area and the “tongue protectors” are one-time charges, along with a large inventory of shirts. An approximate loss of $1200 was the result of the underwriting of the meal costs for the annual meeting. This was partially offset with the results of the silent auction ($370.00) and the sale of calendars ($46.00). A complete financial report was given to the President.

John next reported on the membership status and the fact that our membership stands at 99. It was pointed out that ACBS is in the process of sending our renewal notices, and that the deadline for inclusion into the Directory for 2010 is January 15.

A discussion followed concerning the recent annual meeting. It was clear that all present were unhappy with the services, the location, the setting and all arrangements at the Cleveland Yachting Club. It was unanimous that we would not be returning there for future meetings. Some Board members have already expressed their opinions to CYC management and CYC members. It was suggested that a committee be appointed at the February board meeting to begin early to seek a better location for our 2010 meeting.

A brief discussion followed concerning the 2010 NCO calendar. It seems to have been the best so far, and it was determined to again aim to produce a 2011 calendar of equal or better quality. It was reported that all of the 25 calendars produced are gone. One was retained in the permanent file, two given as gifts to the Mersmans and the Turners, and the remaining 22 easily sold. It was suggested that another fly-by be arranged for boats.

Les reported on the coming NCO display at the IX Center. The day for arrival of the boats at the show has been moved up to Wednesday, January 13th. Les says we will have between 9 and 11 boats, to include Gordon Jane’s hydroplane. Cliff reported that workers have been obtained for all the show hours and suggested that workers car pool to reduce the cost to the Chapter.

Next, Bill Hunter reported that the Spring Workshop will be held at Jeremy Goldsmith’s shop, Custom Marine on April 10. Jeremy will do some “cold molding” and will have a representative from Interlux present to talk with the group. Don and Mary Emery gratuitously agreed to supply coffee and donuts again. After the workshop, members are invited to a nearby restaurant, to order from the menu for lunch.

A brief discussion followed concerning the Rendezvous and more will be coming in the months of April and May on that event.

Bud Long reported on a proposal to have a field trip to an auto museum and presidential home. More to follow on this.

Conversation followed on the award plaques this year. A discussion of metal versus wood followed, with the consensus being that we change design every few years, and it is time to change this year. More to follow on this too.

President Walt Stashkiw announced the appointment of Sylvia Chappell, Jim Denny and Gary Kosiba as directors-at-large. On MOTION the appointments were confirmed.

The next meeting was set for February 1st. Gil Maringer agreed to act as Secretary in the absence of the duly elected secretary, and Marilyn Demaline agreed to take the minutes in March, since the secretary will not be back by then.

On MOTION the meeting adjourned at 9:15pm

Respectfully submitted,

Jack Lynett Secretary
