MINUTES OF NORTH COAST OHIO MEETING
Monday, January 9, 2006
The meeting at Dimitri's Restaurant was called to Order by
President Greg Glick at 7PM. Present were: President Greg
Glick, Treasurer John Vorhies, Secretary Jack Lynett, Past
President Gil Maringer and Directors Bud Long, Eric West,
Don Emery, Ray McFarland, Cliff Wolfe and Les Demaline. Also
present were Sy Lynett, Marilyn Demaline, Mary Emery and Jim
Bassett.
Upon MOTION, the minutes of the annual meeting of December
3 were approved.
President Glick reviewed the various boats in construction
and renovation and the anticipated completion dates.
A review of the coming IX Center show was presented by Jim
Bassett and a location map was circulated.
The Annual Rendezvous was discussed and after discussion,
it was MOVED by Eric West, SECONDED by Ray McFarland and PASSED
that the event be catered and held at the Turkeyfoot Island
Club and that the Chapter defray some of the cost of the food
for those attending. Jack Lynett would select a menu with
the caterer and up to $10.00 per person of Chapter funds be
used to underwrite the event. Jack will prepare and mail notices
to all members, showing the costs and the chapter expense.
The July 4th Boat show will be held on Saturday July 1st
at the Olde Harbor Inn on Portage Lakes Drive this year. Walt
Stashkiw will be Show Chairman and the show will be greatly
enlarged this year with additional docks from the old Simmons
Marine. The show will be followed by an awards dinner at the
Turkeyfoot Island Club. It was suggested that sufficient time
between show and dinner be provided, to permit individuals
to load their trailers in the daylight.
A discussion of the Lyman Boat Show, June 24 at Lyman Harbor
was discussed. Don Emery, a member of LBO, agreed to get applications
and information on the show, and make it available to NCO
members who wish to attend.
The subject of the Beacon Newsletter was discussed. The
consensus seemed to be against any type of "electronic
newsletter". Rather it was felt that the members deserved
to get a hard copy edition in their hands, as in the past.
Jack pointed out that according to Ted Grulikowski, only 2
ACBS chapters (out of 57) use the electronic format. Many
NCO members do not have access to computers, or chose to use
them. It was suggested that we locate an "editor"
who was willing to undertake the Beacon, and Greg was going
to explore that.
A "spring workshop" was discussed and Ray McFarland
will talk with Alleghany Chapter about their workshops. Gil
will talk to Matt Zimmerman to see if any workshop activity
is planned by Buckeye Chapter.
Greg raised the issue of "incorporation" and 501(c)
3 status, and after a discussion, it was decided that it would
be little or no benefit at this time, and the issue was "tabled".
Cliff Wolfe invited all the NCO members to a "Boat
Hop" at the Cleveland Yacht Club on Rocky River May 27,
2006. He will obtain more information and applications for
the next meeting.
On MOTION by Les Demaline, SECONDED by Cliff, it was MOVED
and PASSED that the Chapter donate $500.00 to the Inland Seas
Maritime Museum, in Vermilion, in appreciation of the Museum
paying the City for dock space during our Vermilion show last
year.
The Treasurer's Report is attached in the minute book and
shows that the Annual meeting in December had $1796.00 in
income from dinners and the silent auction less the expenses
for the Yacht club and awards & trophies, which resulted
in a profit of $406.00.The Silent Auction alone brought in
$476.00. Thanks to all who donated items, and to all who purchased
them.
John Vorhies has volunteered to take a "recon"
trip to Conneaut Ohio to explore their invitation to have
a boat show at the city docks. He will report later.
The next meeting was scheduled for February 6, 2006 at Dimitri's
restaurant.
In Jack's absence, Gil agreed to take minutes in February
and Marilyn in March.
There being no further business, on MOTION the meeting adjourned.
Jack Lynett
Secretary
