MINUTES OF NORTH COAST OHIO MEETING
Tuesday, February 6, 2007
The meeting was called to order at 6:45 pm by President, Greg Glick. In attendance were Vice President Walt Stashkiw and his wife Kathy, Bud Long, Jim Bassett, Bill Hunter, Ray McFarland, Don and Mary Emery, and Gil Maringer. Treasurer John Vorhies was out of town and Secretary Jack Lynett could not attend. Gil Maringer volunteered to prepare the minutes.
Minutes of the December 9, 2006 Annual Meeting were approved. A revised membership report shows 117 paid up memberships thus far for 2007. Greg passed out a call list to each in attendance asking them to contact past members who have not yet renewed. The treasury has increased with recent dues receipts and the club remains financially healthy.
Next, chairman of the IX Show, Jim Bassett, reviewed the show results. While attendance at the entire boat show was light this year, the wood boats attracted a loyal following and much interest. Jim suggested we consider buying our own carpet since LEMTA did not provide it this year. He also suggested we start looking for boat commitments early in the summer since many who offered to put boats in the show could not get them out of storage. Bill read off a list of improvements, which included ramps and stairs so people can see the interiors. He also asked that we look for display engines. The board continues to feel the show is important to our club and needs our future involvement. At this time it is uncertain as to how many new members from the show were obtained.
Next a list of activities for 2007 was reviewed. A workshop at BoatCraft is scheduled for April 14 with Gil as chairman. Bill is chairman of the June 2 Rendezvous at Turkeyfoot Island Club. His committee has already had a planning meeting and has some new cruising ideas for the event. Walt is chairman of the June 30 Portage Lakes Show and he has his committee of volunteers. The Conneaut Ohio Show will be August 4 with a repeat of last year’s Friday night fish fry and Saturday public car/boat show. A classic boat party is planned for late August in conjunction with the Turkeyfoot Island Club Social group.
Greg reviewed other club functions and mentioned the Chautauqua group has a new ACBS chapter called the Twin Tier Chapter. Their show will be on July 21. The Buckeye Show will be August 11 and the Huron Wooden Boat Festival will be August 18. Don mentioned that Huron is an excellent venue to attend and there are large crowds interested in the boats.
Next Don discussed the poor condition of the NCO website and said we should either maintain it or close it. Everyone agreed that 2 year old information and old lists of events and officers is a disgrace. The problem is lack of responsibility for keeping it current. Dan White, who is paid by the club to administer the website as well as prepare our newsletter, is very responsive once given something to input or change. Obviously no one is accepting responsibility to give him timely information. We agreed that in this day and age people have come to expect a website for any viable organization, especially the younger folks who we are trying to attract. Gil suggested each month a different director be responsible to edit and update the website. Bud offered to be the first for February and Walt will take March. At the next meeting others will be assigned the rest of the months in the year.
Bill next suggested we consider other types of events and activities to bring in members we never see. Such things as group trips, river cruises, swap meets, etc. could provide vitality and new faces to NCO. Greg agreed to send an email to all members asking for their suggestions as to the type of things they want to see us do.
The date for the next meeting was set for Wednesday, March 7th at Dimitri’s, 6:00 pm. There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 8:30.
Respectfully submitted,
Gil Maringer
