MINUTES OF NORTH COAST OHIO MEETING
Monday, March 7, 2007
The March meeting of the Officers and Directors of the North Coast Ohio chapter of the Antique and Classic Boat Society was held at Dimitri’s restaurant on March 7, 2007 pursuant to notice. The meeting was called to order by President Greg Glick at 6:50PM.
Present were: President Glick, VP Walt Stashkiw, Treasurer John Vorhies, Secretary Jack Lynett and Past President Gil Maringer. Directors present were:Bill Hunter, Jeremy Goldstein, Don Emery, Les Demaline, Sylvia Chappell, Larry Prebis and Ray McFarland. Guests included Chad Grubb, Mary Emery, Marilyn Demaline, Kim Vorhies, Kathy Stashkiw, Cheryl Marringer, and Joe Nemas.
The minutes of the last meeting were approved as written.
Chad Grubb presented a brief history of Chippewa Lake, in nearby Medina County, and informed the members of the plans for a July 4th parade and water show. He requested that NCO members bring their boats on trailers and enter the July 4 parade. He suggested that the members then launch their boats and cruise the lake. While the City of Medina has bought the private lake, and intends to make it into a city park, no regulations on horsepower or speed have yet to be put into place. He reported that a water ski show will be staged later in the day, with viewing from the lawn area near the Oaks Lodge. Some members expressed interest in the parade, and would discuss participation separately with Chad.
The spring workshop was next discussed. It is scheduled for April 14, 2007 a Saturday. Since the shop has no provisions for eating, it was decided that following the workshop, members would adjourn to Anthe’s restaurant for lunch and a brief business meeting. Bill Hunter would make the arrangements with Anthe’s for lunch at about 1:30.
Tom Pryor from Michigan will be present at the workshop to demonstrate some of his inventions that make keel installation easier. As a courtesy an invitation will be sent to the Buckeye Chapter ACBS and its members. Les Demaline pointed out that the date is on the same day as the ACBS Quarterly meeting in Mystic Harbor.
Treasurer John Vorhies presented the financial report. In essence, the chapter is about at the same level it was a year ago. John also reported on membership which has fallen to 102 according to ACBS renewal information. There were 22 members that did not renew their NCO membership. Some of the loss was attributed to the new Chautauqua chapter. John reports we have obtained 3 new members.
Bill Hunter reported that the plans for the Rendezvous are going forward. It is scheduled for June 2nd 2007 at Turkeyfoot Island Club and his committee will be sending out notices with more detail soon.
Walt Stashkiw reported that the Portage Lakes Show will be on June 30th this year, and plans were progressing on raising money and the production of the show poster. Walt will bring a draft of the poster to the Board as soon as possible.
The new Chautauqua chapter was discussed and their plans for the coming year. Since the chapter is a spin-off from NCO, it was MOVED, SECONDED and PASSED
that NCO contribute $300 to the chapter to assist them in their start-up costs. It was recalled that last season the Chautauqua show produced a healthy profit which was deposited into the NCO treasury.
Those present were reminded that the Conneaut show will be on August 4th 2007. John Vorhies informed the Board that many of the same provisions will be in effect this year, as last. There will be inside storage for boats on Friday night and on Saturday night if needed. The actual show will begin later this year. It is scheduled to be open to the public at noon on Saturday. John indicated more information will be coming out in a flyer before the show.
There was no report on the IX Center show, except a hand-out which Les Demaline circulated to the board. The hand out from Jim Basset will be copied and will be available to all members upon request to the secretary. It will be attached to the official minutes.
A discussion of the Beacon Newsletter and the web site followed. Most all of the officers and directors were concerned about the NCO web site. Various suggestions were made to improve it. The principal stumbling block seemed to be the lack of articles and stories. Without member or officer participation in preparing stories and articles, there is nothing to publish or post on the web site. At a previous meeting, a director was assigned each month to oversee the Beacon and web site. Reports will be forthcoming from those directors at the next meeting.
The next scheduled meeting will be April 14, Saturday, following the workshop.
The President adjourned the meeting at 8PM.
Respectfully submitted
Jack Lynett
Secretary
