MINUTES OF NORTH COAST OHIO MEETING
Monday, April 5, 2004
The meeting was called to order at 6:55 PM by Jack Lynett
at Dimitri's Restaurant on Snow Road in Parma. Present for
the meeting was Vice-President, Dennis Naylon and Secretary,
Marilyn Demaline; Directors, Les Demaline, Bud Long, Bill
Hunter, Cliff Wolff, Don Emery, and Ray McFarland; and members
Eric West, Dan White, Greg Glick Sy Lynett, and Mary Emery.
There was a correction to the minutes of the March 8, 2004
meeting. The minutes failed to mention that Cliff Wolff will
have the Chapter logo redrawn by Tom Ott. This will provide
the club with a clean, sharp version of the logo for future
use on the web site as well as for other printing needs. The
minutes were approved as corrected.
In the absence of John Vorhies, Treasurer, Gil Maringer reported
that there was no significant change in the treasury balance
as there had been little activity in the past month.
Committee and Director Reports:
Dennis Naylon reported that he has prepared a list of items
owned by NCO and their present location.
Jack Lynett announced that he will be sending a notice to
NCO members for the June 5 Rendezvous at Turkey Foot Island
Club. Included in the mailing will be a notice to the Board
Members requesting them to bring a specific food/picnic item
to the pot luck. He reminded Board Members that if they were
not going to attend the Rendezvouz, it will be their responsibility
to either provide the donation as requested or find someone
else to bring their donation for the outing. The Vermilion
Boat Show flyer will also be included with this mailing.
Les Demaline announced that the Vermilion Boat Show plans
were well on their way. He and Cliff Wolff are beginning to
solicit advertising for the Show Program. To date Cliff has
secured the largest advertising donation of $500.00 from the
Sunnyside Porsche-Audi Dealer in Middleburgh Hts. Plans are
also under way for a Trade Fair.
While Walt Stashkiw, Chairman of the 4th of July Show at
Portage Lakes was unable to be at tonight's meeting, he conveyed
through Gil Maringer that plans are well under way and he
expects to have some room for displaying antique cars on the
day of the show. If any members know of someone who might
be interested, please contact Walt.
Gil Maringer announced that he is already receiving applications
for the Chautauqua Show. The staff at Holiday Harbor will
participate in this event and will help with the show and
program.
Cliff Wolff has already ordered posters for the Chautauqua
Show and the Vermilion and 4th of July show posters are ready
for final approval before printing.
The award for the Most Preserved Antique Boat from ACBS Headquarters
was forwarded to Jack Lynett for presentation at an NCO Show.
Since this award has already been presented at Vermilion and
Chautauqua, the club agreed to give it to Walt Stashkiw to
present at the 4th of July Show at Portage Lakes.
The April 24 Workshop at Ray McFarland's in Newton Falls
is coming together. A variety of projects will be presented
and Ray will rent tables and chairs necessary for this function.
Ray has also completed 50 sailboat kits for the Vermilion
Show. Kits left from the 2003 show will be used at a Woods
and Waters function so the sailboat designs will all be the
same for Vermilion.
Dan White announced that the NCO Initial Web Site is now
complete. Web address is www.northcoastohio.org.
Members may email Dan at dwhite@northcoastohio.org,
if they would like to have a free email address to this site.
While the Members Only section is password protected, the
Discussion Forum, is open to anyone. The Trading Dock will
be available to members and we will offer links to commercial
sites to companies who advertise in our newsletter and/or
show programs. A disclaimer will provide that the links are
not endorsements but merely a way to share information. The
next issue of the Beacon, scheduled to publish in early summer,
will outline the Web Site services to all NCO members.
Members approved the payment of $400.00 to Dan White for
development and design of the Web Page. In addition, for Dan
agreeing to take over the publication of the newsletter as
well as his efforts in establishing the web site, a motion
was made and seconded by Bill Hunter and Don Emery to have
NCO pay for Dan's ACBS and NCO membership for one year. Motion
carried.
Bill Hunter will produce business cards for NCO Officers
and Directors. He will need a clean copy of the logo to do
this. An attempt will be made to find an original letterhead
to use for this purpose. If not available, he will wait for
the new logo drawing that is being prepared. In addition,
at Jack's request, Les was able to have magnetic name tags
made for the officers and directors. These will be available
for the May meeting and can be worn at all NCO functions and
shows.
ACBS News:
Jack announced that the ACBS Board of Directors approved
the purchase of the entire inventory of Bob Speltz books for
the price of $25,000.00. The purchase includes all printed
books as well as all the printing plates and copyrights so
that additional copies can be printed when needed.
The next Quarterly Meeting of ACBS is scheduled for 4/29
through 5/1 in Houston, TX. The meeting will be hosted by
the South West Chapter of ACBS and includes the Chapter Round
Table Meeting, Quarterly Board of Directors Meeting, a visit
to the Johnson Space Center and the Keels and Wheels Annual
Boat and Car Show. NCO members Jack and Sy Lynett and Les
and Marilyn Demaline will be attending this meeting.
Any NCO member who plans on attending the ACBS Annual Meeting
and Boat Show at Lake Lanier, GA in September should contact
Denny Naylon. He would like to hear from members that might
be interested in traveling together as a group.
New Business:
Gil received a notice from NCO member Bill Gilroy about the
Lyman Boat Owners' Ohio River Cruise and Boat Show on June
11-13. This announcement will be included in the Newsletter
calendar.
There was some discussion about the article in the current
issue of The Brass Bell that addresses the issue with the
federal law requiring Hull Identification Numbers (HIN) on
all boats built before standardized numbers were required.
Ohio has come to the forefront in this issue and is implementing
rules that will allow antique boats to display the HIN in
locations other than on the transom. There will be a more
detailed article in the next newsletter about this matter.
The next meeting will be on Monday, May 3 at 6:00 PM at Dimitri's
Restaurant. Meeting adjourned at 9:00 PM with motions made
by Cliff Wolff and Bill Hunter.
Respectfully submitted,
Marilyn Demaline, Secretary
