MINUTES OF NORTH COAST OHIO MEETING
April 5, 2010

MINUTES of the regular meeting of the Officers and Directors of the North Coast Chapter of the Antique and Classic Boat Society Inc, held Monday April 5, 2010 at Dimitri’s Restaurant, Parma Ohio.

Present were Directors Don Emery Joe Nemes, Gil Maringer, Les Demaline, Marilyn Demaline, Bill Hunter, Ray McFarland, Gary Kosiba, and Jim Denny. Officers present were Treasurer John Vorhies, Secretary Jack Lynett, Vice President Jeremy Goldstein and Past President Greg Glick. Guests included Mary Emery, Rich Theiss, Lucy Hunter, and Char Denny.

In the absence of President Walt Stashkiw, Jeremy Goldstein called the meeting to order at 6:30 pm.

The minutes of the previous meeting, having  been posted on the web and e-mailed to the Board, on MOTION and SECOND and with unanimous consent were approved as read.

Jeremy provided those present with additional information on the workshop at his business place and provided directions to those not familiar with the area.

A discussion followed concerning the future trip to the Car Museum in northeast Ohio.

John Vorhies reported on status of the treasury, subject to the outstanding donation to the Algonac project honoring Chris Smith, Gar Wood and others.

John reported on the membership numbers, presently at 87 and the fact that 17 have not yet renewed for 2010.

Jack reported on the coming Rendezvous and the fact that flyers will soon be in the mail for the June 5 event, along with assignments for Board members to bring food.

Bill Hunter introduced Rich Theiss as a new member, interested in seeing what the  Board does at these meetings.

Discussion followed concerning the Portage Lakes show. In  the absence of
Walt, Gil reported that progress is  being made. Again, poster issues arose, concerning the printing of it. Don Emery pointed out that he had provided the photograph months ago, without any acknowledgement from the printer or Cliff Wolfe.
The issue of insurance came up, and it is unknown if the two venues desire a “certificate of Insurance” as in other years. Walt will find out and report back. Costs of registration were raised, and apparently not yet decided.

The issue of shirts was discussed, and many questions arose over the “inventory” of any of NCO shirts, and if NCO would do shirts for the Portage Lakes show,

Lucy Hunter reported on the publicity aspect, and indicated she had invited Robin Swoboda of Channel 8 to attend. Ernie Stadvec will again be present to interview boat owners and film their boats for inclusion on his web site.

A discussion followed concerning the cost of rental of the Turkeyfoot Island Club as opposed to a return to Dusty’s where no rental was required.

A discussion was held concerning the recent Beacon and the lack of wording under the photographs. Bill Hunter pointed out that Journalism 101 required that all photographs have captions. Don Emery, our photographer, and official Lyman photographer, pointed out that to stop search out the owner of each boat to write down the name, was impossible since he takes upwards of 200 photos of each event. Jack Lynett pointed out that it was clearly redundant to write under a photo of a recipient of an award, when a simple reading of the story beside the photo would clearly identify the person.

The 2010 annual meeting was mentioned, and Don Emery would again look into Edgewater Yacht Club for the chapter for the first weekend in December.

Les reported on a “training session” to be held at Holiday Harbor for would-be judges of the Twin Tier Chapter of ACBS. Les and Gil and Dave Williams are organizing the event.

Les reported that LEMTA, the sponsor of the IX show in January, will hold a boat show at Cataba Island Yacht Club (CIC) the weekend of April 30 and May 1 and 2. NCO members wishing to attend should contact Les, who will be bringing a Chris barrel-back.

It was pointed out that Mike Lloyd was organizing a flotilla to travel to the annual ACBS meeting at Bay Harbor Michigan by water, and was looking for others to join him on this 3 or 4 day trip.

It was announced that our own Les Demaline is in charge of the boat show at the annual ACBS meeting in Bay Harbor, a distinct honor for NCO.

The next meeting was scheduled for May 3.

On MOTION the meeting was adjourned.

Respectfully submitted,

Jack Lynett
Secretary
