MINUTES OF NORTH COAST OHIO MEETING
Monday, April 7, 2008

The meeting which was held at Dimitri's Restaurant, Parma Ohio, was called to Order by President Walt Stashkiw at 6:30 PM. In addition to President Walt Stashkiw, the following were present: Dave Williams, Dan White, Jim Bassett, Les Demaline, Marilyn Demaline, Mary Emery, Don Emery, Past President Greg Glick, Nancy Glick, Cheryl Maringer, Gil Maringer, Vice-President Jeremy Goldstein, Treasurer John Vorhies, Kim Vorhies, Rose McFarland, Ray McFarland, Bill Hunter, Lucy Hunter, Secretary Jack Lynett, Joe Nemes, Ann Marie Nemes, Eric West and Julie West.

John Vorhies reported on the state of the treasury and as Membership Chair, he reported that the membership now stands at 98. North Coast lost some members to the new Chautauqua chapter and the Indian Lake Chapter. John will provide a list of new members to Dan White, to include on the web page.

Jack Lynett reported on the coming Rendezvous, May 31. The notices will go out within a few days. Jack inquired if some "activity" would be planned that should go into the notice, but since no decision was made, the activity would be marked, "TBA" or to-be announced". Jack reported on the progress of the Spring 08 issue of the Beacon, and the fact that it should be in the mail within the week. It is lacking one article and a "from the helm" comment from the President. As chair of the Constitutional revision committee, Jack indicated that he has converted the existing constitution to a PDF file and will be sending it to the committee members by e-mail for their comments and additions and suggestions.

Les Demaline and John Bassett reported on the past and future of the IX Show. Les had worked out a budget approaching 1000 dollars for items such as carpet, vests, hand-outs and other items. Many of these items should be re-used in future years and are therefore a one-time expense. Les reports that he and John will meet with Ken Albee in early June, to see if they can impress him with the importance of antique wooden boats, and perhaps secure some funding or a guarantee of certain space. It appears that NCO got billed for hundreds of dollars in entry costs. Les will investigate that. It was suggested that we "get out of the parking business" and the consensus as that NCO should not underwrite parking, except for individuals bringing boats. It was pointed out that that the use of "shrink-wrap" will help encourage owners to donate their boats, thereby keeping them dry during transport to the IX facility. Les will have a more detailed report with recommendations at the next meeting.

Les discussed the next NCO event, a day at Air Ship Ribs, the Willoway Nursery and lunch at Berrardies. He and Marilyn encouraged all to send in their reservations early.

A conversation followed concerning the NCO web page. Web Master Dan White was present to field questions, and Dan indicated he would stay after and set up his computer for a full demonstration. It was suggested that a "simple" written instruction page be prepared and perhaps inserted in the next Beacon. A MOTION was MADE, SECONDED and PASSED that authorized Dan to only accept matters for the web page that came from an Officer or Director or event Chairman..

Discussion followed concerning the awards to be used this year for NCO events. Joe Nemes reported that the awards were in progress and would be finished in time. It was suggested that he prepare 60 awards, since occasionally the awards are used for other purposes. A discussion of "judging" followed. It was suggested that to avoid even a suggestion of conflict, judges should come from other chapters or from ACBS International. Walt was going to contact Rick Terry, Chairman of the ACBS Judging Committee and try and find out how their judges are compensated. NCO cannot pay all expensed, but perhaps some reimbursement would bring in some near-by judges.

Gil reported on the July 4 parade in Medina. A discussion followed about an invitation to Lakeside Resort on Lake Erie. Ray McFarland will explore the Lakeside invitation further and at a later meeting, the Board will decide if NCO will participate at Medina or Lakeside, or both.

John Vorhies reported on Conneaut and the progress he is making with the Lyman Boat Owners. It is scheduled for July 26th, and hopefully the Lyman Owners will make it an event on their calendar, and attend. The Board was informed that "Elvis" will be back this year, as well as the antique cars, antique outboard motors and hopefully the Friday night perch fry.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Don Emery presented an enlarged photograph of "Gad a-Bout" taken at Portage Lakes to Eric and Julie West. The photograph is to be used in ACBS promotions thanks to Don.

The next meeting is scheduled for May 5, 2008 and is scheduled at Anthe's on Manchester Rd., in Akron.

On MOTION, the meeting adjourned at 8:15.
