MINUTES OF NORTH COAST OHIO MEETING
Tuesday, May 1, 2007

MINUTES of the regular meeting of the Officers and Directors of North Coast Ohio Chapter of The Antique and Classic Boat Society Inc., held Tuesday May 1, 2007 at Dimitri’s Restaurant, Rockside Road, Parma Ohio.

The meeting was called to order at 6:20PM. The following were present: President Greg Glick, VP Walt Stashkiw, Treasurer John Vorhies, Secretary Jack Lynett, and directors Les Demaline, Ray McFarland, Bill Hunter, Jeremy Goldstein, Bud Long, Eric West, Don Emery and Past President Gil Maringer. Guests include Cheryl Maringer, Marilyn Demaline, Rose McFarland, Lucy Hunter, Julie West, Kim Vorhies and Mary Emery.

The Minutes of the previous meeting were APPROVED. John Vorhies gave the financial report indicating the treasury was down slightly because of recent “donations” to the Inland Seas Museum and to the start-up of the Lake Chautauqua chapter. John reported than membership stands at 108, down from the usual 115 or 120 which we have traditionally held. John then reported on plans for the Conneaut show. While we may miss out on the wonderful fish-fry of last year, the Port Authority has planned some other activities for us this year.

Gil Maringer reported on the July 4 event at Chippewa  Lake in Medina County. There will be a parade and members are asked to bring their boats on trailers, for the parade. Members will then be permitted to launch and since there are no docks at the launch ramp, assistance will be given by local ski-club members in the water. Members will be permitted to tour the lake, with the possibility of dockage next to the Oaks Restaurant. More information will be provided to those who indicate they will be attending.

Walt reported on the progress of the Portage Lakes Show.  Walt indicated the Harbor Bar has been sold this past week, but the employees assure him that the show is still on, and the new owner will be open and have the buffet ready. The show posters have been ordered, and Cliff Wolfe will provide a “proof” this week to Walt.

Bill Hunter reported on the Rendezvous set for June 1 at Turkeyfoot Island Club. Bill reported the committee elected to return to the earlier format of a picnic-style event rather than a catered event. Bill assigned different items to be brought by the officers and directors, and indicated notices will be in the mail soon with more details. Burgers and Dogs will be grilled to go with the food and drink brought by the members.

A report on the Web Site has been deferred another month, even though the next meeting will be in October.

Greg called for a proposal that all communications going to the members be directed either thru the Presidents office or the Secretary. A discussion followed and the Board indicated there was no need for such a policy at this time.

Les explained the gift of $550.00 to the Inland Seas Museum and the fact that it would be used in the boat-building program for young individuals. The program will be supervised by Les on behalf of NCO and the winner of the judging contest, will be eligible for the “Junior Craftsman Award” given annually by ACBS and the Chapter.

Jack reviewed the recent Quarterly Meeting activity of ACBS and the meeting at Mystic Harbor Connecticut. Jack explained the workings of the Museum in Mystic Harbor and the collection of boats owned by the museum. In addition the museum holds the largest collection of Rosenfeld photographs and negatives, numbering over half a million. Bill and Lucy Hunter attended their first quarterly meeting, and shared in the museum activities and lunch at the famous Mystic Pizza shop, site of the Julia Roberts movie of the same name. Marilyn Demaline reported on the separate bus trip to New Port Rhode Island, and the tour of the boat building school and the projects the students are working on.

A brief discussion followed about the inclusion of plastic boats into ACBS, and it was reported that the Board of Directors and Officers at ACBS are considering such a proposal now and some result may be forthcoming at Lake George in September. Greg asked if any NCO members are planning on attending the international meeting at Lake George, and Jack, Les and Marilyn and Don and Mary indicated they were going.

The next scheduled meeting was set for October 9th at Dimitri’s at 6PM and on Motion the meeting was adjourned at 8:30PM.

Respectfully submitted

Jack Lynett
Secretary
