MINUTES OF NORTH COAST OHIO MEETING
May 4, 2009

Minutes of the regular meeting of the Officers and Directors of the North Coast Ohio chapter, of The Antique & Classic Boat Society Inc., held May 4th, 2009 at Dimitri’s Restaurant, Parma Ohio.

Present were: President Walt Stashkiw, Treasurer John Vorhies, Secretary Jack Lynett and Directors Dave Williams, Joe Nemes, Don Emery, Bud Long, Sylvia Chappell, Ray McFarland, Gary Kosiba, Bill Hunter, Marilyn Demaline and Les Demaline. Also present were Past President Greg Glick and guests Ann Marie Nemes, Mary Emery and Lucy Hunter.

The President called the meeting to Order at 6:35PM.  Treasurer John Vorhies reported on the bank balance and the Check Register and the outstanding checks that had not found their way to the bank. John also reported on the membership and the fact that we now have 92 members, down slightly from a year ago. John reported on the letters he had sent to members that did not renew, and to members of the ChrisCraft Club that were not NCO members. John asked that each officer and director try and recruit a new member. John also reported on the status of the Buckeye Lake show, and the difficulties they were having and the upcoming show on June 20 and the fact they had an auctioneer who would auction off boats for sale during the show.

Jack reported on the details of the coming Rendezvous on May 30 and the fact that Gail Turner, ACBS vice-president and her husband Bill were coming. Jack gave Walt a desk pen set, made from an NCO plaque, to be presented to Gail at the Rendezvous. It was also MOVED, SECONDED and PASSED that a gift certificate in the amount of $100.00 be obtained for Ruth’s Chris Steak House in Atlanta as a gift to the Turners for making the trip to an NCO function.

Discussion followed on the “fly-by” and photo shoot during the Rendezvous. Bill Hunter has obtained permission from ODNR to use either the speed-lanes of Turkeyfoot or Mud Lake for such photo session. Advantages of either lake were discussed and my MOTION with a SECOND, it was PASSED that Mud Lake be used, and that Bud Long’s pontoon boat serve as the platform for Don Emery to take the photographs. It was decided that the photo shoot would be between the hours of 2 and 3, and Walt will notify the owners thru a mailing and Bill will confirm the arrangements with the ODNR, Summit County Sheriff and other law enforcement agencies.

Walt provided a hand-out of assignments for the Portage Lakes Show on June 27th.  Each item was reviewed and each individual knew of the assignment. The only gap seemed to be a lack of information on Tee-shirts and Bud Long will check into that. Lucy Hunter reported on the publicity packet that would go out in advance of the show.

Sylvia Chappell indicated to the board that the Lakeside show was coming along as planned, and the location of the Chautauqua show was discussed. In addition each member was encouraged to attend the quarterly ACBS meeting at St. Michaels MD on June 19 and 20, and Greg Glick pointed out a coming show in the 1000 Island area of the St. Lawrence seaway with lunch at the famous Boldt Castle. The annual ACBS meeting in Muskoka Ontario was discussed, and many NCO members will be attending.

Marilyn Demaline reported on her committee work investigating the potential for NCO participation in either an annual meeting or a quarterly meeting. Marilyn handed out her report showing the pros and cons of each meeting. After lengthy discussion it was MOVED and SECONDED and PASSED that the attempt to sponsor an annual ACBS meeting be put on the back burner until we get stronger membership and more active members, and that we continue to explore the possibility of a small quarterly meeting, perhaps in conjunction with the Portage Lakes show in the summer.

It was MOVED, SECONDED and PASSED that the President be the responsible individual to see that all the NCO events get on the various published calendars and web sites.

A brief discussion was had concerning the Beacon becoming a three per year publication as opposed to a quarterly publication, and it was decided to wait until news and features became so few, that quarterly was not possible. It was suggested that old issues may be a source of material to re-print.

The next meeting will be during the Rendezvous on May 30 with emphasis on the last minute details of the Portage Lakes show, and then the next scheduled meeting will be at Dimitri’s Restaurant, September 8, 2009.

On MOTION the meeting adjourned at 8:25.

Respectfully submitted

Jack Lynett
Secretary
