MINUTES OF NORTH COAST OHIO MEETING
Monday, May 8, 2006
The meeting was called to order at 6:30 PM by President Greg
Glick.
Present were VP Walt Stashkiw, Treasurer John Vorhies, Secretary
Jack Lynett, and Directors Jeremy Goldsmith, Eric West, Bud
Long, Don Emery, Cliff Wolfe, Bill Hunter and Les Demaline.
Also present was Past President Gil Maringer, and guests Allen
Jones, Mary Emery, Marilyn Demaline and Sy Lynett.
John Vorhies reported on the state of the treasury and reported
the treasury was at the same level as this time last year.
It was suggested that the exact dollar amount not be published
in the minutes that are available on-line, it being the business
only of the officers and directors. Members can contact the
treasurer for more specific information.
John also reported on the membership and the fact that three
new members have joined. It was requested that these three
new members receive invitations to the coming Rendezvous.
Because of a refund that was due to Matt Zimmerman, it was
suggested that those funds be used to defray his membership,
and that he continue to be on the mailing list of NCO.
John then reported on the Conneaut show scheduled for July
29. Flyers will be in the mail soon giving details on launching,
hotels and so on.
Greg reported that the "Beacon" quarterly newsletter
of NCO will soon be published. He will send an electronic
version to the board prior to publishing, for additions or
corrections.
Gil Maringer reported on the recent trip of NCO to the Warther
museum in Dover Ohio. For those who did not attend, it was
an enjoyable trip with much to learn about this master carver.
The Amish noon meal was worth the trip in itself.
Gil reported on the progress of the Chautauqua Show, and
the fact that the local members are raising money for the
program and have secured a band for Saturday afternoon.
Walt Stashkiw reported on the progress of the July 4 show,
on July 1 this year.
The docks have been installed next to the Harbor Bar, and
the new owners of Simmons Marine hope to have their restaurant
up and running for the show. The show will bridge both facilities
with slips for 56 boats. A discussion was held on the new
name of the "old Simmons Marine building", and Walt
will provide us with additional information when it becomes
available. A MOTION was made to approve the draft poster design
for the show, and after SECOND and discussion, it was unanimously
passed. The awards dinner at Turkeyfoot Island was discussed,
and any member wishing to leave a boat in the water overnight,
will be provided dockage by members living on the lake, nearby.
Jack Lynett reported on the Rendezvous, scheduled for June
3 at Turkeyfoot Island Club. The menu has been selected and
Jack stressed the need for reservations, since the caterer
needs a count prior to the meal. Liquid refreshments will
be supplied by the officers and directors, and Jack will be
contacting members to supply such liquid refreshment. There
will be a "donation" jar at the beginning of the
buffet line to help defray the costs and ease the burden on
the treasury.
Gil showed the Board some photographs of an "original"
Chris-Craft with some strange cleats and colorful engine parts,
suggesting that the Chapter may wish to begin a "restoration
project", but the suggestion died for lack of a SECOND.
Gil also showed us an early Chris-Craft product called "Wood
Preservative Toxic" used to preserve wood in the Twenties.
It was suggested that the title "Toxic" in large
letters on the label, was probably the earliest "truth-in-advertising"
approach.
Jack pointed out the ACBS raffle of a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe
to be awarded at the Annual Meeting in Lake Tahoe in September
and will get tickets from Headquarters to permit NCO members
a chance to win.
A discussion was held about the boat-building program at
the Great Lakes Historical Museum in Vermilion, but no action
was taken.
On MOTION the meeting adjourned at 8PM.
Respectfully submitted
Jack Lynett
Secretary
