MINUTES OF NORTH COAST OHIO MEETING
September 8, 2009
MINUTES of the regular meeting of the Officers and Directors of the North Coast Ohio Chapter of The Antique and Classic Boat Society Inc, held September 8th 2009, at Dimitri’s restaurant, Parma Ohio.
The meeting was called to order by President Walt Stashkiw at 6:56PM. Present were Directors Dave Williams, Les Demaline, Marilyn Demaline, Don Emery, Bud Long, Gil Maringer, Ray McFarland, Bill Hunter and Joe Nemes, along with John Vorhies Treasurer, Jack Lynett Secretary and guest Mary Emery.
The President thanked all for coming on the day after the Labor Day Holiday.
John Vorhies reported on the state of the treasury and compared our financial condition to prior years. John pointed out that we spent money on shirts and carpet for the IX center, items that will either repay themselves as shirt income comes in, or not be recurring as with the carpet. A copy of the financial and check ledger is attached to the secretary’s minutes.
John also reported on the membership numbers and at present NCO has a membership of 92. We recently picked up 3 new members during the summer.
John next reported on the results of the Portage Lakes show. With expenses running around 7 thousand dollars, thru the good work of Bud Long in obtaining sponsors, the overall result was a profit to the chapter of 1000 dollars.
Reports followed on various other shows in which NCO participated.
Many NCO members attended the Lyman show in Huron. It was well organized and at a beautiful venue. Don Emery has posted his excellent photographs on his web site, showing many NCO members enjoying the event.
At Skeanateles this year, NCO sent six boats and won 4 awards. Again the hospitality of the sponsoring chapter was outstanding.
Chautauqua was discussed next. Some small controversy apparently came up over judging, but those items will clearly not be an issue. TwinTiers Chapter has relied on NCO in past years to aid in judging, and will be working toward resolving problems for next year.
Buckeye and Buckeye Lake were discussed. John Sproat who is in charge of the Buckeye show to be held at the yacht club, has been in touch with NCO and is seeking assistance for next year’s show. John proposes a commitment of so many Buckeye boats coming to our Portage Lakes show in exchange for an equal number to travel to their show.
Jack reported on the recent ACBS insurance debate and the coming “round table” discussion on Insurance scheduled for the annual meeting in Muskoka September 24.
A show of hands indicated Bud Long, Gil Maringer, Walt Stashkiw, Jack Lynett and Les Demaline all going to the annual meeting. A cell phone list was circulated so they may keep in touch.
Shirts were next discussed. It was pointed out the Logo on the recent shirts was not the original NCO logo. The writing is reversed and the boat changed. ACBS dictates that any change in logo be approved by the chapter board and submitted to ACBS. It is requested that Cliff bring samples of product to the next meeting, so the Board may see them.
The President reported that ACBS wants to know if NCO plans any dues change. On MOTION by Bill Hunter, SECONDED by Bud Long, it was PASSED that NCO keep the current dues structure without change.
Two new temporary committees were formed: Nominations and Awards. Greg Glick will chair the Nominations Committee. Nominations for President, VP, Treasurer and Secretary are needed to serve 1 year, along with nominations for 3 Directors to serve 3 years. Bill Hunter and Ray McFarland will head the Awards Committee. Nominations are needed for (1) the Golden Hose Clamp, (2) the Sy Lynett First Mate Award, (3) the John Smith Award along with suggestions for the President to select a Presidents Cup winner.
The Annual Meeting was discussed. It is scheduled for Saturday December 12, 2009 at the Cleveland Yachting Club. On MOTION duly made and PASSED, The secretary was instructed to invite incoming ACBS Vice-President Jim Mersman and his wife to be the guests of NCO.
Les reported on the IX show in January. Les suggested we do a “theme” this year. It was decided that the theme would be “The Portage Lakes contribution to Antique and Classic boating . Les would feature Portage Lakes boats this year and their connection to Antique and Classic boating. President Walt Stashkiw will approach the Portage Lakes Historical Society and seek their participation with NCO.
The Next meeting is set for October 5th at 6 PM at Demitri’s.
On MOTION the meeting adjourned at 8:45 PM.
Respectfully submitted,
Jack Lynett
Secretary
