MINUTES OF NORTH COAST OHIO MEETING
Monday, September 12, 2005
The meeting was held at the lovely Portage Lakes home of Eric
and Julie West. Following a delicious meal prepared by our
host and hostess, the meeting was called to order by President,
Jack Lynett. The minutes of the May, 2005 meeting were approved
as presented on the NCO website. John Vorhies reported our
treasury balance at $9347.00. The motion to accept the report
was made by Bill Hunter and seconded by Cliff Wolfe. The current
NCO membership stands at 123. This is compared to a total
of 124 members in 2003 and 129 members in 2004.
Old Business: The summer boat shows were reviewed.
Vermilion - June 25, 2005 Les Demaline reported that a total
of 19 boats were in the water and 7 displayed on land. 30
kids par;ticipated in the Sail Boat Race. After all expenses
were paid the net profit was $2187.00. However, due to difficulties
with the City of Vermilion in securing the docks for future
shows, it has been decided that we cancel the Vermilion Show
and seek another venue. It was suggested that we look into
the Lyman Harbor in Sandusky as a possible place to move our
show.
Portage Lakes - July 2, 2005 Walt Stashkiw reported that
there were 32 boats in the water. The boat registrations along
with contributions from the Portage Lakes Historical Society
covered the show expenses and netted a profit of $178.00.
NCO is being encouraged to return in 2006. The property adjoining
The Harbor has been sold and the new owner is planning to
open a restaurant and to add additional boat slips which could
increase the total dock space to 40 slips.
Walt also reported that he had realized a $240.00 profit
from the sale of the T-shirts. There are 34 shirts still to
be sold.
Lake Chautauqua - July 16 , 2005 - John Vorhies read the
report prepared by Gil Maringer. 40 boats were in the show.
NCO received great support from Holiday Harbor Marina. The
Marina put on a pig roast which was open to all the boat registrants.
NCO sponsored a wine and cheese party and made a donation
to Holiday Harbor. The show had a net loss of ($100.00). Gil
would like to turn over the show to the residents of the Lake
who have expressed an interest in running future shows.
The special boat show at the Turkey Foot Island Club on August
16 was quite successful even thougfh the weather was threatening.
9 boats participated in a boat parade. As each boat passed
the docks the MC narrated for the guests the information about
the boat and its owner. It was recommended that we try to
incorporate a parade of boats at future boat show events.
New Business:
President Lynett appointed Bill Hunter to chair the nominating
committee for the 2006 elections. He will be joined by members
Ray McFarland and Les Demaline. The slate will be presented
at the next meeting on October 10, 2005.
The annual meeting will be held on December 3 at the Edgewater
Yacht Club. The President will be considering nominees for
the annual awards including the John Smith Award, the President's
Cup, and the Golden Hose Clamp Award.
President Lynett thanked the West's for their great hospitality.
Members Bill Hunter and John Vorhies made and seconded a motion
to have NCO reimburse the West's for the food. Eric West agreed
to accept the reimbursement, but only if he could donate the
money to the relief funds to benefit the victims of Hurrican
Katrina. Julie who works at Kaufmanns's said she would arrange
to have the donation received by Kaufmann's and Federated
Dept. Store who will match our contribution. All members present
voted in the affirmative to do this.
Some discussion ensued about the continuation of displaying
our boats at the Winter Boat Show at the IX Center. It is
a good place to share our hobby with the general public as
a charitable and educational event. The Belfi's have already
offered their boats for this year's show. Further review will
be given to this event before any decision is made.
Attending the meeting were President Jack Lynett; Vice President,
Denny Naylon; Secretary, Marilyn Demaline; and Treasurer,
John Vorhies; Directors; Cliffe Wolfe, Les Demaline, Larry
Prebis, Ray McFarland, Walt Stashkiw, Bill Hunter, Bud Long,
and members Sy Lynett, Kim Vorhies, Kathy Bradley, June Prebis,
Rose McFarland, Lucy Hunter and Ginger Long.
Upcoming events include the annual meeting of the ACBS to
be held at the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri from September
14 to the 18. The Lynett's and Demaline's will be attending
this meeting.
On Octrober 15 the Great Lakes Historical Society will hold
their annual meeting at the Elyria Country Club.
There being no further business the motion was made to adjourn
at 9:20 PM. Next meeting will be at Dimitri's Restaurant on
October 10 at 6:00 PM.
Respectfully submitted,
Marilyn Demaline, Secretary
