MINUTES OF NORTH COAST OHIO MEETING
October 5, 2009

Minutes of the regular scheduled meeting of the Officers and Directors of the North Coast Chapter of The Antique and Classic Boat Society, held Monday October 5, 2009 at Dimitri’s restaurant, Parma Ohio.

Present were: President Walt Stashkiw, Treasurer John Vorhies, Secretary Jack Lynett, past President Greg Glick, and Directors Marilyn Demaline, Gary Kosiba, Bill Hunter, Sylvia Chappell, Ray McFarland, Bud Long, Eric West, Don Emery, Dave Williams, Cliff Wolfe and Gil Maringer. Guests included Debbie Kosiba, Rose McFarland, Lucy Hunter, Ginger Long, Julie West, Mary Emery. Cheryl Marringer.

President Stashkiw called the meeting to order at 6:45PM.

Minutes of the last meeting were approved.

John Vorhies reported on Membership and indicated we received one new member since the last meeting. The current membership stands at 95.

John then reported on the state of the Treasury which stands at approximately the same as a year ago this time.

Greg Glick reported for the Nominating committee. Greg was successful in getting office holders and current directors to agree to renew their terms for the coming year. His report will be published in the Beacon and will be a part of the notice of the annual meeting which will be mailed in November.

Bill Hunter reported for the Awards committee. Those awards will be presented at the annual meeting in December. Bill asked again for nominations for the John Smith award and asked that something be published in the next Beacon.

Jack Lynett reported on the recent annual ACBS meeting in Muskoka. There were 16 North Coast members present, probably more than any chapter outside the home chapter of Toronto. Jack explained the insurance forum which was held and the various committee reports. He detailed the awards presentation during the final dinner, and some controversy that followed. Jack explained some of the subsequent problems after the judging awards were announced. Walt and Gil, who were judges, added their insight.

Cliff reported on the progress of the sale of shirts. He asked that some information be published in the next Beacon, to help with sales.

In the absence of Les Demaline, Bill Hunter spoke on behalf of the IX Show committee.
It seems they have commitments for 3 or 4 boats with a Portage Lakes history, and are seeking more. Through Bill’s efforts, Lucy Hunter agreed to put her boat “Stroller” in the show and Bud Long agreed to bring his boat this year. In addition Gary Kosiba will bring his GarWood. Walt reported on the discussions with the Historical Society, and while they will not be able to sell items during the 10 day show, they can share the table with NCO and advertize their organization and seek members.

A discussion followed concerning Buckeye Lake. Since two organizations are attempting to put on the boat show,  NCO is in the middle. We should support another ACBS chapter, but the Yacht club has the venue and determined to put on a show. A conflict exists on the dates chosen so more information is needed on this event.

The question was posed as to whether we need another NCO calendar for the coming year 2010. The results seemed to indicate that another calendar was in order, and we will proceed with the help of Don Emery, to produce 25 calendars this year, showing NCO boats “on plane”.

Marilyn shared the story of a Lyman explosion at Channel Grove marina on Lake Erie in September and asked that the story be published in the Beacon so all NCO members can be reminded of the problem with certain carburetors.

A discussion followed about the move of the Great Lakes Historical Society to Toledo from Vermilion and Cliff Wolfe, a trustee, explained the move to the board.

The next scheduled meeting was set for November 2, 2009 at Dimitri’s restaurant, and on MOTION, the meeting adjourned.

Respectfully submitted

Jack Lynett
