MINUTES OF NORTH COAST OHIO MEETING
Saturday, December 9, 2006
MINUTES of the Annual Meeting of the North Coast Ohio Chapter of the Antique & Classic Boat Society, held December 9, 2006 at the Turkeyfoot Island Club, Akron Ohio.
The meeting was called to order by President Greg Glick. Thirty four (34) members were present pursuant to the notice mailed to all North Coast Ohio members. Greg welcomed Ted and Barb Gruilikowski from Michigan. Ted is an International Director of the Antique & Classic Boat Society, and responsible for a number of chapters in his region, to include North Coast Ohio.
The Minutes of the previous meeting were approved. Greg explained that no nominees were offered by the membership other than the “slate” which was proposed by the Nominating Committee. A MOTION was made and SECONDED and PASSED to instruct the Secretary to cast a unanimous ballot for the “slate” which included; Greg Glick for President to January 2008, Walt Stashkiw, Vice President to January 2008, Jack Lynett Secretary to January 2008 and John Vorhies Treasurer to January 2008. Directors elected to January 2010 include Bud Long, Jim Bassett and Ray McFarland. Congratulations to all.
Greg announced that Walt Stashkiw had served two capacities as Vice President and as Director, and that he recently resigned his Director post and that Gil Maringer would be appointed to fill that vacancy until January 2008.
It was announced that because of a conflict, Greg could not attend Monday meetings of the Board of Directors. It was MOVED, SECONDED and PASSED that the meetings be held on Thursday evenings. The next meeting will be held on Thursday January 11th, 2007. Notice will be given to the officers and directors of the place and time.
A brief Treasurers report and membership report was given.
Upon adjournment, the meeting proceeded to the “Awards” portion of the agenda.
In the absence of last year’s recipient of the John Smith Award, John Herwick, Jack Lynett presented the 2006 Trophy to Don Emery. Don was recognized for his work with the Ohio Institute of the Blind, his web site, and his work as twice Commodore of the Edgewater Yacht Club. Don, who is always present with his camera at these events had to relinquish the camera to his wife Mary this time. Congratulations to Don from North Coast Ohio.
The Presidents’ Cup this year went to Walt Stashkiw. Greg recognized Walt for his fine work in organizing and directing the Portage Lakes Show. Because of Walt’s work, the show has grown in number and prestige, making it the premier NCO show of the season.
The final presentation and highlight of the annual meeting, is the presentation of the “Golden Hose Clamp” award. As the dinner program states, the award has been continuously given since 1995, when a 1948 Chris Craft nearly sunk because of a lack of a hose clamp on the output side of a bilge pump. The award is always given in good spirits, because we never know when we might be the recipient. This year’s award was earned early in the season, when a small engine fire prevented Bud Long from bringing his “First Date” Chris Craft to the Rendezvous. Bud was forced to use his aluminum pontoon boat to get to the show. Greg presented Bud with a fire-helmet, his fire-charred jacket and a large schematic wiring diagram for the correct wiring of a Chris Craft generator.
The evening concluded with the announcement of the winning bids for the silent auction, which showed an unofficial total of $526.00 for the NCO treasury, and a large “thank you” to the donors of the items.
Respectfully submitted
Jack Lynett
Secretary
